If you haven’t already figured it out, I am head over heels in love with Halloween. My house is decorated, my pumpkins are bought and of course, my costumes are ready to play! For those of you who haven’t bought your costumes yet, let alone even thought of what you and your kiddos are going as this year, I thought I’d put together a fun collection of ideas for my fashionistas out there. Teddy bear, schmeddy bear… why not think outside the box of costumes. This year, take your favorite fashion icon and turn into a classic halloween costume for your kids. Here are the ones I’ve come up with…
Betsey Johnson, a legend in her own rainbow colored world is the perfect costume for that spunky gal who likes to play dress up. Layer on all the tutus you own, adorn with bright colored knee-high socks, buy a blong wig and give it a cut the way any kid wishes they could… messy with no rhyme or reason, crimp and let loose. Don’t forget crazy jewelry and fun spunky personality to match.
This one’s for the fellas… Monsieur Karl Lagerfeld is a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world, and I think a mini Karl walking from door to door trick-or-treating would be the funniest sight ever! White haired wig, big sunglasses, black suit, white collared shirt adorned with a long pendant necklace, cut off gloves… and lately, he’s been carrying around his new prized possession, his white kitty cat, Choupette (who’s starred in her own fashion film, btw). Too easy and too funny not to attempt this ultra fashion forward costume this year!
Twiggy was one of the first waif-like models to start in the industry and boy, do all of today’s starving models have her to thank for their diets. Top a cute little girl with a cute little blonde wig, a mod dress, some knee-high socks and of course, the signature Twiggy eye makeup that you’ll have fun painting on!
There’s no one more feared yet so highly respected in the fashion world than Anna Wintour… I mean, just look at her! I’ve had the chance to meet her and she’s really not so bad, although I’ve never had to work with her, so I rest my case. For that diva in your life, try this one on for size. Bob cut wig, a chic Chanel looking skirt suit, some jewels, a fur shrug perhaps and Ms. Wintour’s signature piece, dark sunglasses.
For the girl who always strives to be your pretty little princess, this is something a bit different, and oh so elegant. An LBT (tutu), perhaps long black gloves, hair up in a big bun, big sunglasses, mama’s pearls and of course, the cherry on top, every girl’s dream, the tiara.
Can’t wait to see everyone’s creative costumes! Happy Halloween!
